The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they will skip Noah Syndergaard's next start before reportedly transitioning to a six-man rotation that's expected to include rookie Steven Matz.

Matz, who's set to be reinstated from the disabled list, will start for Syndergaard on Saturday against the Miami Marlins. The club will then implement a six-man rotation, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Manager Terry Collins, meanwhile, told reporters prior to Tuesday's game against Philadelphia that the club has yet to decide when, or if, it will move to a six-man rotation.

Syndergaard's workload continues to be a hot-button topic down the stretch for the first-place Mets, who entered play Tuesday holding a 6 1/2-game lead over Washington in the National League East.

The 23-year-old has pitched 152 innings this season, which already exceeds his 2014 total by 15. According to Daren Willman of Baseball Savant, the hard-throwing right-hander has thrown a league-leading 1208 pitches of 95 mph or more.

Matz's return comes on the heels of a strong rehab start for Double-A Binghamton, where the left-hander struck out four batters over 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
