Edwin Encarnacion's record-setting week at the plate for the surging Toronto Blue Jays earned the 32-year-old slugger the American League's Player of the Week award on Monday.

Encarnacion continued his torrid second half by going 9-for-23 (.391) with six home runs and a pair of doubles in six games last week, including a three-homer, 9-RBI onslaught against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

"It's a bigger game than I've ever been [in]," Encarnacion told reporters after Saturday's 15-1 victory. "I'm happy and I thank God for giving me a game like this."

The two-time All-Star also extended his MLB-leading hitting streak to 25 games in Sunday's series finale, while his unbelievable week helped him set a Blue Jays franchise record with 35 RBIs in August.

Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, earned Player of the Week honors for the National League after following up Tuesday's impressive outing in San Francisco with a 116-pitch no-hitter at Chavez Ravine on Sunday night.

Arrieta, who didn't allow an earned run in 15 innings last week, collected a dozen strikeouts in Sunday's masterpiece against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing just one walk over nine frames en route to the 14th no-hitter in Cubs history.

"It's tough to put it into words," Arrieta said afterwards. "You think about it all the time, and as a kid, and you see other guys around the league do it and you want to be a part of that. It's not only special for me and my family and friends, but the organization and my teammates."
