Rangers trade Michael Choice to Indians

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers traded outfielder Michael Choice to the Cleveland Indians on Friday, three days after designating him for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired Will Venable.

Choice, 25, will head to Cleveland in exchange for cash considerations.

Selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Choice was accompanied by lofty expectations when he made the Rangers' 25-man roster out of spring training last year, but endured a disastrous rookie season in Texas.

In 86 games, Choice hit just .182/.250/.320 (59 OPS+) with nine home runs and 69 strikeouts - a performance that rendered him an afterthought following the 2014 campaign. Choice has spent the majority of 2015 at Triple-A Round Rock, appearing in only one game for the Rangers before being traded.
