The bright lights in the Bronx didn't phase 23-year-old Henry Owens.

Making his major-league debut against the division-leading New York Yankees and ace Masahiro Tanaka on Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox starter allowed three runs off five hits and a walk, while striking out five in as many innings.

The ninth pitcher in franchise history to make their debut at Yankee Stadium, Owens settled down after a shaky 34-pitch first inning and went on to retire 12 straight batters.

Owens, however, got into trouble in the sixth. After allowing the first two batters to reach base, he departed with a 2-1 lead. Left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. proceeded to allow three runs in the inning, with two of them being charged to the rookie.

Boston's bullpen would implode in the seventh inning, allowing nine runs as the Yankees went on to the 13-3 win. Red Sox relievers have allowed 24 earned runs off 40 hits over their last eight games.

The 36th selection in the 2011 draft, Owens is the top-ranked pitching prospect in the Red Sox system.
