An MRI on the right thumb of Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons revealed some bruising in the bone, manager Fredi Gonzalez told reporters Monday night.

"We're calling it a bone bruise right now," said Gonzalez. "And I think the good thing is, like we talked this afternoon, from yesterday to today was a big improvement.

Gonzalez didn't offer a timetable for when Simmons, who injured his thumb while diving for a ball Saturday, might return to the field, though he noted the 25-year-old was available to pinch-run Monday at Turner Field.
