Indians place Kipnis on 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation

Less than 24 hours after losing for the seventh time in 10 contests, the Cleveland Indians placed second baseman Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to right shoulder inflammation.

Omitted from Sunday's lineup against the Oakland Athletics, Kipnis underwent an MRI amid discomfort in his shoulder that's been particularly severe when he throws. The 28-year-old, who has battled intermittent shoulder pain throughout the season, is expected to miss two-to-three weeks, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Before landing on the disabled list, Kipnis hit .326/.401/.477 with six home runs, 31 doubles and 11 stolen bases in 101 games, producing more wins above replacement (5.2) than all but four players.

"He's been a force," manager Terry Francona said recently.

In a corresponding move, the Indians recalled infielder Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Columbus. Through 47 games with the Indians this season, Ramirez is hitting just .176/.243/.235 with one home run and eight stolen bases.
