Marlins' Fernandez fires 6 scoreless innings, remains unbeaten in Miami

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

Not only does Jose Fernandez seem determined to stay undefeated at Marlins Park, the 22-year-old appears increasingly resolved to never give up another run in his home ballpark.

Making his sixth start since returning in early July from a 14-month Tommy John hiatus, Fernandez carried an unblemished 15-0 record in 23 career starts in Miami into Sunday's series finale against the San Diego Padres.

In his preferred environs, Fernandez was his usual brilliant self, collecting 10 strikeouts while allowing just four hits and two walks over six shutout innings in the Marlins' 5-2 victory over San Diego.

Fernandez whittled his home ERA to 1.44 this season with Sunday's performance. Since his relatively pedestrian 2015 debut - his first start for the Marlins in more than a year - Fernandez has allowed just one run in 19 innings in south Florida.
