VIDEO: Benches clear as Bumgarner takes exception to Rangers' DeShields' bat flip
Things got heated at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on Friday.
San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner took exception to a bat flip from Texas Rangers outfielder Delino DeShields after the rookie popped out in the fourth inning against the 2014 World Series MVP.
Their verbal exchange set off Rangers veteran Adrian Beltre, who left his bench and came to the rescue of his teammate, leading both teams to enter the field.
There were no punches thrown nor was anyone ejected, although home plate umpire Mark Ripperger warned both teams.
This wasn't the first incident of this kind for the Rangers or Giants this season, or even this month.
Rangers infielder Rougned Odor and Houston Astros catcher Hank Conger exchanged words in the ninth inning July 18, which led to a similar bench-clearing.
The Giants' and San Diego Padres' tempers also flared in the ninth inning July 21.
Giants second baseman Joe Panik told reporters after the game that Odor's hard slide into second earlier in the fourth inning may have gotten Bumgarner riled up. Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus said the Rangers "are not going to get intimidated" by Bumgarner.
