The New York Mets made a big splash prior to the trade deadline when they officially acquired outfielder Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers on Friday.

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld - a Mets fan - jumped on social media to lead the Cespedes welcoming committee with a message that may be familiar to fans of "Seinfeld" the sitcom.

The tweet refers to the fictional Festivus holiday created by George Costanza's father, which has become a real-life celebration for fans of the series.

Cespedes was one of the best hitters available on the trade market, and after the Mets' attempt to acquire Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez went wrong (and Gomez was eventually traded to the Houston Astros), they did well in grabbing some offensive punch for their lineup.

Cespedes was hitting .293/.323/.506 with 18 home runs and 61 RBIs prior to his trade.
