Despite recent stirrings regarding the future of Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro, manager Joe Maddon has assured the 25-year-old he's not going anywhere.

In their search for a starting pitcher, the club initially spurred discussions with the San Diego Padres about potential deals, but it now seems those talks have fallen through.

"I told him 'you're not getting traded,'" Maddon said of his conversation with Castro. "'Just relax and play.'"

Castro, under contract through 2019, is in the midst of a less-than-stellar 2015 campaign, hitting .237/.271/.305 with five home runs in 97 games.

"We have a great relationship. He's on my side all the time. I appreciate that," Castro told reporters. "I appreciate that. I'm here, trying to be here, trying to play hard, help my team win,"
