Gray spins 4th career shutout vs. Dodgers

The Oakland Athletics may have begun their fire sale, but that hasn't slowed Sonny Gray's bid for the American League Cy Young Award.

The right-hander tossed his fourth career shutout Tuesday night, holding the Los Angeles Dodgers to three hits while striking out nine in a 2-0 Athletics victory.

Gray, who didn't allow a runner to reach third base while improving to 8-1 with a microscopic 1.64 ERA on the road this season, now has two shutouts this month after blanking the Cleveland Indians back on July 12.

The Oakland ace also collected his first big-league hit in the victory, smacking a single down the right field line in the eighth inning.

Gray now stands at 11-4 with an AL-leading 2.16 ERA in 21 starts, making him the long bright spot for the lowly Athletics this season.

Oakland (45-46) has already traded left-hander Scott Kazmir, utility man Ben Zobrist and closer Tyler Clippard prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
