Blue Jays sign Joba Chamberlain to minor-league deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed free agent Joba Chamberlain to a minor-league deal.

Chamberlain was released by the Detroit Tigers earlier in July after posting a 4.09 ERA and 1.68 WHIP over 30 relief appearances this season.

Over the course of nine seasons, the 29-year-old has struggled to find consistency. Aside from a stellar rookie campaign in 2008 and successful 2011 season, both with the New York Yankees, Chamberlain has been anything if not average.

Chamberlain owns a career 3.82 ERA with 520 strikeouts over 529 2/3 innings.
