Rays' Souza has no tendon damage after HBP, avoids DL stint for now

Steven Souza will not be placed on the disabled list, for now, at least.

The Tampa Bay Rays outfielder suffered a right hand contusion after getting hit by a pitch Sunday against the New York Yankees. Tests on Monday showed no damage to the tendon.

Despite requiring three stiches, X-rays came back negative. Souza said he hasn't tried to swing a bat yet, making a disabled list stint possible, though he's able to pinch-run or come in as a defensive sub Monday against the Kansas City Royals.

In his first full-time major league gig, Souza is batting .210 with 108 strikeouts, despite knocking a team-high 10 homers.
