Brewers send struggling Garza to DL with shoulder tendinitis

Charles LeClaire / USA Today Sports

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Matt Garza was placed on the disabled list Monday with shoulder tendinitis.

The transaction is retroactive to July 3, a day after Garza was roughed up for four runs on 10 hits in Milwaukee's 8-7 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Garza, who's in the second season of a four-year deal signed last winter, is in the midst of one of the worst stretches of his career. The 10-year veteran has allowed a league-high 120 hits this season while sporting an unsightly 5.55 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. He's allowed 10 runs in two separate outings, one of which he was tagged for seven runs, and at least five runs in six of his 17 starts.

The Brewers recalled right-hander Corey Knebel from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move, and announced Tyler Cravy will rejoin the rotation for Tuesday's start against the Atlanta Braves.
