MLB Today: Sale chases record K streak, All-Star reserves on deck

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Here's what's happening in Major League Baseball right now:

SALE OF THE CENTURIES

Chris Sale tries to set a major league record by striking out at least 10 batters in his ninth straight start. The Chicago White Sox ace pitches at home against Toronto, the top-scoring team in the majors. Sale has fanned 97 in his last eight starts - in 1999, Pedro Martinez also reached double digits in strikeouts eight times in a row.

ROOKIE REPEAT

San Francisco Giants rookie Chris Heston faces the visiting New York Mets for the first time since pitching a no-hitter against them last month at Citi Field. Since the historical outing, the right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.80 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.

HE'S READY

Seattle Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma is set to come off the disabled list and start against the Detroit Tigers at Safeco Field. He's been sidelined since April 24 because of a strained right lat.
