Cardinals' Matt Holliday could rejoin club before All-Star break

The best team in baseball could get a little better.

Matt Holliday could be set to rejoin the St. Louis Cardinals next week, nearly a month after being placed on the disabled list.

Holliday has been sidelined since June 9 with a Grade 2 quad tear, an injury he suffered while chasing down a pop up in shallow left field.

The slugger will travel with the club next week when the Cardinals hit the road for three-game sets against the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Manager Mike Matheny said that although all signs are pointing towards a return to the order before the All-Star break, he won't rush it.

"Still optimistic," Matheny said. "We do have hopes, but understand, too, that if something doesn't feel right, look right, we can back off. But we'll continue to try to push him."

Prior to going down with the injury, Holliday was off to a scorching start, slashing .303/.417/.421 with three home runs, 10 doubles, and 26 RBIs.
