Marlins' Fernandez feels 'fantastic' day after return from Tommy John surgery

Miami Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez couldn't be better one day after making his return from Tommy John surgery.

"I feel fantastic," Fernandez told reporters Friday.

In his first start since May 9, 2014, Fernandez allowed three runs off seven hits against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, striking out six en route to picking up the win.

Fernandez dialed a fastball up to 100.2 mph during the outing and will take the ball for his next scheduled start Thursday at home against the Cincinnati Reds.

"After every rehab start, it was how he felt and how much soreness he encountered," manager Dan Jennings said. "That was part of the actual passing for the next rehab start, so it's great to hear that [he is fine]. I'm looking forward to July 9 when he takes the ball again."

The 2013 National League Rookie of the Year went 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA in eight starts last season.
