Yankees place Carlos Beltran on DL with left oblique strain

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

Another New York Yankee is heading to the disabled list.

The club has placed Carlos Beltran on the 15-day DL retroactive to July 1 with a left oblique strain.

Beltran appeared to suffer a rib injury in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, leaving the Yankees short another position player. He'll join Jacoby Ellsbury (knee), Brendan Ryan (back), Mason Williams (shoulder), and Slade Heathcott (quad) on the DL.

Beltran was hitting .260 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 66 games prior to suffering the injury.

The Yankees have recalled outfielder Ramon Flores and infielder Gregorio Petit. They have also optioned outfielder Taylor Dugas to the minors.
