A timeline of Jerry Dipoto's tenure with the Angels

Gary A. Vasquez / US PRESSWIRE

Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto's resignation on Wednesday was triggered by an unrepairable relationship with manager Mike Scioscia.

Here's a look back at Dipoto's three-and-a-half years at the helm of the Angels.

Oct. 28, 2011 - Dipoto replaces Tony Reagins as general manager.

Dec. 8, 2011 - Angels sign Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson.

"Arte (Moreno) has made it very clear he wants to win championships, he wants to win rings. And we think this is a way to move toward that goal. We still have to play 162 of them, but we feel like we're better today than we were yesterday." - Dipoto

Just over a month on the job, Dipoto poached All-Star first baseman Albert Pujols from the St. Louis Cardinals with a 10-year, $250-million deal. On the same day, the Angels also inked left-hander C.J. Wilson to a five-year, $77.5-million deal.

July 27, 2012 - Angels trade Jean Segura to Brewers for Zack Greinke.

"We're hopeful that this move will be not just a short-term gain, but one that's good for the organization and the history of the Angels' organization." - Dipoto

Desperate to add to their rotation, Dipoto pulled the trigger on trading top prospect Jean Segura and two Double-A pitchers to the Milwaukee Brewers for impending free agent Zack Greinke. The right-hander went 6-2 with a 3.53 ERA across 13 starts with the Angels but the team was unable to retain him, instead watching him sign north with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In addition to Greinke, the Angels also lost Torii Hunter, LaTroy Hawkins, and Dan Haren to free agency.

Oct. 31. 2012 - Angels trade right-hander Ervin Santana and cash to the Kansas City Royals for left-hander Brandon Sisk.

Dec. 15, 2012 - Angels sign Josh Hamilton.

"We've done our fair share of due diligence." - Dipoto

For a second straight season, Dipoto made a major splash in free agency, inking outfielder Josh Hamilton to a five-year, $125-million deal. On the heels of five consecutive All-Star seasons, Hamilton was a disaster during his two seasons in Los Angeles, hitting .255/.316/.426 with 31 home runs and 266 strikeouts in 240 games.

Dec. 19, 2012 - Angels trade first baseman Kendrys Morales to the Seattle Mariners for left-hander Jason Vargas.

March 26, 2013 - Angels trade Vernon Wells to the New York Yankees.

"I can't say, if you were to ask Vernon, he would remember fondly the way he performed the last two years." - Dipoto

Saddled with the massive contract of Vernon Wells from previous management, Dipoto was able to move the veteran outfielder to the Yankees following 208 disappointing games. The Yankees picked up $13.9 million of the $42 million owed to Wells over the final two seasons of his contract.

July 31, 2013 - Angels trade infielder Alberto Callaspo to Oakland Athletics for second baseman Grant Green.

Nov. 22, 2013 - Angels trade outfielders Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk to the Cardinals for third baseman David Freese and right-hander Fernando Salas.

Dec. 12, 2013 - Angels trade outfielder Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-handers Hector Santiago and Tyler Skaggs.

March 20, 2014 - Angels trade manger Mike Scioscia's son Matt to the Chicago Cubs for Trevor Gretzky - the son of NHL Hall of Famer Wayne.

July 19, 2014 - Angels acquire right-hander Huston Street from the San Diego Padres for four prospects.

Dec. 11, 2014 - Angels trade second baseman Howie Kendrick to Dodgers for left-hander Andrew Heaney.

Dec. 16, 2014 - Angels trade right-hander Kevin Jepsen to Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Matt Joyce.

April 27, 2015 - Angels trade Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers.

"Josh, from the moment he arrived here, there's been turbulence." - Dipoto

Part way through his deal, Dipoto did all he could to rid himself of Hamilton following the outfielder's drug and alcohol relapse. The Angels traded Hamilton to the Rangers, agreeing to pay most of the remaining $80 million owed.
