Updated betting odds have Stanton, Harper as favorites to win home run crown
Two months into the season and the most compelling race in baseball has nothing to do with the playoffs.
As the calendar flips to June, Bryce Harper and Nelson Cruz continue topace the league with 18 homers apiece, Paul Goldschmidt and Josh Donaldson find themselves skyrocketing up the leaderboard after a flurry of long balls to end May, and Todd Frazier is proving that the career-high 29 dingers he hit last year were no fluke.
That's to say nothing of Giancarlo Stanton, the major-league leader in distance per home run.
Stanton and Harper remain oddsmakers' favorites to win this year's home run crown, according to updated figures released Monday by the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.
The most notable omission from the list below is Chicago Cubs rookie Kris Bryant, who has knocked out seven long bombs despite missing the first nine games of the season. After being listed at 18-to-1 odds on Opening Day while with Triple-A Iowa, his subsequent promotion and power showing has seen his value drop, now paying out at 8-to-1 odds.
Here's a look at the odds offered on the top 40 home run hitters as of June 1, relative to what was available on Opening Day.
