One of the Baltimore Orioles' most durable players is dealing with a minor injury that could sideline him for the next few games.

Adam Jones, who had appeared in 56 consecutive games dating back to last year, was scratched from the lineup Saturday with a sore ankle and X-rays revealed a mild sprain. He's listed as day-to-day.

Jones was given the day off by manager Buck Showalter as the four-time All-Star is dealing with soreness and swelling following an awkward slide at home plate during Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

While Jones remained in the game and even managed to play Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Showalter made the decision to scratch Jones from the lineup Saturday in order to prevent any further risk.

"I took it out of his hands," Showalter told Roch Kubatko of MASN. "I'm not saying he couldn't Kirk Gibson it. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

"Any time Adam admits to a little soreness, you can probably multiply it by two."

Jones has been extremely durable for the Orioles, missing only five games over the last three seasons.

In 47 games this season, Jones is hitting .304/.343/.457 with six home runs and 26 RBIs.
