Athletics' Griffin to begin minor league rehab assignment Tuesday

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Oakland Athletics right-hander A.J. Griffin (elbow) will make his first rehab start at High-A Stockton on Tuesday, Joe Stiglich of CSNBayArea.com reports.

Analysis:

After Griffin tossed a pair of 15-pitch simulated games Thursday, the Athletics were satisfied enough with the right-hander's results to have him advance his rehab to a minor-league game. Tuesday will mark Griffin's first game appearance since spring training of last season, before his bout with elbow tendinitis ended up requiring Tommy John surgery. Griffin will likely be eased along slowly during his rehab assignment, which will likely cover multiple weeks with stops at multiple affiliates.
