James Paxton: Departs Early Due to Finger Issue

Paxton was removed from Thursday's start against the Indians due to a left hand injury, Shannon Drayer of 710 AM ESPN Seattle reports.

Analysis:

The Mariners' trainer appeared to examining one of the fingers on Paxton's throwing hand, suggesting he may have been bothered by a blister or a broken fingernail. The issue might have had a negative impact on his ability to place pitches, as Paxton was touched up for four runs (three earned) on eight hits, including Brandon Moss homer that represent the first long ball he'd ever surrendered to a left-handed batter. The Mariners should provide more word on the nature of Paxton's injury after the game concludes.
