New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez tied Barry Bonds for second on the all-time list with his 1,996th career RBI.

A-Rod used a sacrifice fly to plate the speedy Brett Gardner in the top of the fifth inning of Thursday's clash with the Oakland Athletics to pull even with the home run king.

Rodriguez belted the 665th home run of his career - a three-run shot - on Wednesday to surpass legends Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig for third on the all-time list, according to the Elias Sports Bureau (RBI has been an official statistic since 1920).

A-Rod has a long way to go in order to match Hank Aaron's mark of 2,297 RBIs, and was unable to drive in another run in his subsequent at-bats of the 5-4 loss to the A's.
