American League Game Summary - Chicago at Toronto

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Adam LaRoche and Gordon Beckham each knocked in runs in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 5-3 decision over Toronto and avoid a three-game series sweep by the Blue Jays.

LaRoche followed Jose Abreu's leadoff triple off Roberto Osuna (1-1) with a single that plated the eventual winning run. Beckham later added an insurance tally with a two-out double that helped Chicago halt a four-game losing streak.

The two big hits enabled a shaky David Robertson (4-1) to record the win despite surrendering a game-tying solo homer to Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the ninth.

Robertson's blown save denied Jeff Samardzija a third straight victorious start after the Chicago righty held the Blue Jays to one unearned run while scattering eight hits over seven strong innings.

"We won, that's all that matters," Samardzija said afterward.

Abreu finished 3-for-5 with a two-run double that Toronto center fielder Ezequiel Carrera lost in the sun in the third inning. LaRoche, Beckham and J.B. Shuck each collected two hits and an RBI for the White Sox.

Donaldson had two RBI and Chris Colabello went 3-for-5 for a Toronto team that had amassed 24 runs over a three-game win streak it brought into Wednesday's finale.

Blue Jays starter Marco Estrada worked seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits.

Toronto had overcome a 3-0 deficit by putting up single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, with the red-hot Donaldson forcing extras by crushing a high fastball from the struggling Robertson into the second deck in left with the White Sox two outs away from a victory.

Donaldson also connected off Robertson for a three-run shot in the ninth that gave the Blue Jays to a 10-9 triumph on Tuesday.

Chicago bounced back quickly this time, though. Abreu socked Osuna's fourth pitch off the right-field wall and hustled his way to third before LaRoche drove him in. Beckham made it a 5-3 edge with an opposite-field liner that sent home pinch-runner Emilio Bonifacio.

"We're not winning like we should, but we're not giving up," Beckham said. "I think that bodes well for the rest of the season. It's one thing to have a game like last night and come back here and have it happen again and then just die mentally. It's good to not let down."

Robertson was in trouble again during Toronto's half of the 10th, surrendering a one-out single to Colabello and walking Josh Thole before retiring the final two hitters to close the game out.

Estrada was reached for consecutive one-out singles by Carlos Sanchez and Adam Eaton in the third inning, but appeared to have averted harm by retiring Melky Cabrera and inducing a seemingly harmless pop fly into short center field from Abreu. Carrera never picked up the ball in the high sky, however, and it dropped behind him as both runners crossed the plate.

"I'm not here to make excuses, but a ball gets in the sun and scores two runs, that's just baseball," Donaldson remarked. "At the end of the day we kept pushing and gave ourselves a chance to win."

Samardzija was able to get out of all of his trouble situations while holding Toronto scoreless through six innings. He worked around Jose Reyes' leadoff double in the first and stranded two Jays in the second before cruising over the next three frames.

Estrada managed to keep it a 2-0 game until the sixth, when LaRoche led off with a single, moved to second on a grounder and came home on Shuck's base hit to center.

Toronto finally broke through against Samardzija in the seventh. Singles by Kevin Pillar and Ryan Goins and a passed ball by Chicago catcher Geovany Soto put runners at second on third for Donaldson, whose fly ball to right was snared at the warning track for a far-less damaging sacrifice fly.

The Blue Jays inched closer an inning later, with base hits from Russell Martin and Colabello preceding Justin Smoak's pinch-hit single off Zach Putnam that trimmed the lead to 3-2.
