Kansas City Royals (28-17) at New York Yankees (24-22), 1:05 p.m. (ET)

(SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas City right-hander Chris Young tries to continue his hot start to the season on Wednesday when the Royals attempt to salvage the finale of their three-game set with the New York Yankees.

Young started the season in Kansas City's bullpen, but injuries thrust him into the rotation where he has thrived, going 3-0 in four starts, while allowing just one earned run in 22 2/3 innings.

"One thing the bullpen taught me is to make one good pitch at a time, take care of one batter at a time," said Young. "The numbers all even out through time. I'm not worried or concerned about that. I just like the element of competition of being out there."

The veteran hurler was again on point against St. Louis Friday, as he scattered six hits over six scoreless innings to run his record to 4-0 overall on the season to go along with a sparkling 0.78 ERA.

"I wasn't great tonight," Young said. "I wasn't as sharp. Their guys fouled off good pitches and they made me work."

Young beat the Yankees two starts ago, limiting them to a run in 5 2/3 innings. He is 3-1 in six starts against New York with a 4.35 ERA.

New York, meanwhile, will turn to righty Michael Pineda, who has lost his last two starts since striking out a career-best 16 Baltimore Orioles back on May 10. Pineda was hammered by the Texas Rangers on Friday to the tune of seven runs (4 earned) and eight hits in six innings to fall to 5-2 with a 3.59 ERA,

He had given up five runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Royals two starts ago. In five games versus Kansas City Pineda is 2-3 with a 2.76 ERA.

After rolling to a 14-1 rout in Monday's opener, New York made it two in a row on Tuesday, as Adam Warren pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and Mark Teixeira knocked in four runs to lead the Yankees to a 5-1 win.

"We swung at a lot of balls out of the zone," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "(Warren) spotted his fastball well...and located his slider pretty darn good."

The Yankees have beaten the AL Central-leading Royals twice on the heels of a six-game losing streak and will be seeking their third sweep of the season on Wednesday.

"Streaks are part of baseball and what you try to do is shorten the bad ones," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "The big thing is how they respond to it ... but there's no real secret."

Kansas City's only run on Tuesday came on Paulo Orlando's first major league homer, a solo shot off Warren in the sixth inning.

The Royals took two of three from the Yanks earlier this month.
