Nationals' Strasburg shelled for 6 runs over 3 2/3 innings by lowly Phillies

Brad Mills / USA TODAY Sports

Stephen Strasburg had the perfect opportunity to post back-to-back wins for the first time this season, but the lowly Philadelphia Phillies had other plans.

The Washington Nationals righty was bombed for six runs - five earned - on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings before getting the hook from manager Matt Williams in favor of A.J. Cole with a 6-0 deficit.

Strasburg's ERA has ballooned to 6.50 with the poor outing, and he's now failed to complete six innings of work in a game since April 25.

The 26-year-old was battling a shoulder injury earlier this month and may still be suffering from the effects of the ailment.

The Nationals should shed some light on the situation following the game.

Philadelphia entered play averaging 3.11 runs per game - the worst mark in the bigs.
