Rays option Tim Beckham to Triple-A, will recall Enny Romero

Tim Beckham launched an eighth-inning solo shot Friday night at Tropicana Field, his fifth of the season, to help the Tampa Bay Rays secure a 5-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

Shortly after the game, he was rewarded for his efforts by being optioned to Triple-A Durham to create a spot for left-hander Enny Romero on the 25-man roster.

Though Beckham started 20 of Tampa Bay's first 43 games this season - the 25-year-old managed an 81 OPS+ heading into Friday's contest - the Rays were eager to add another reliever to the active roster after relying heavily on their bullpen of late.

Romero, who hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2013, crafted a 2.70 ERA with a 2.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 13 1/3 innings for Triple-A Durham prior to being recalled.
