American League Game Summary - Texas at New York

Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Prince Fielder homered twice and drove in four runs to carry the Texas Rangers past the free-falling New York Yankees 10-9 in the opener of a three-game series.

Mitch Moreland hit a solo homer, Thomas Field added a two-run double, and the Rangers won their third straight despite Colby Lewis (4-2) allowing five runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings.

"We needed all of those (runs). But we got the win," said Fielder. "Hopefully we don't have to do that much often, but the pitchers have been solid so it's our turn to pick them up."

Most of the damage was done in a seven-run third inning against Michael Pineda (5-2), though only four runs were earned. Pineda suffered his second straight loss after winning his first five decisions.

"A couple errors, make a little mistake. The little things that happen that cost us the game," Pineda said.

A 2-7 road trip knocked New York out of first place in the AL East for the first time in a month, and a return to the Bronx was just as disappointing despite an offensive outburst.

Garrett Jones and Didi Gregorius both hit three-run homers, Mark Teixeira added a solo shot, and Alex Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the setback.

Jones' pinch-hit homer off Tanner Scheppers in the eighth brought the hosts within 10-8, and Teixeira's 13th home run of the season made it a one-run game in the ninth. Ross Ohlendorf shook off the homer, however, and survived to collect his first career save.

The Rangers batted around in the third and did not make an out until six runs were across.

Pineda compounded his troubles with a throwing error that loaded the bases with no outs, and Gregorius misplayed Delino DeShields Jr's chopper into two runs. Shin-Soo Choo added an RBI single, and Fielder followed with a no-doubt, three-run shot into the second deck in right field.

After a pop out, Moreland sent one even further than Fielder's, and the Rangers were suddenly up 7-0.

The Yankees made Texas sweat with four runs in the fourth. Choo lost Brian McCann's line drive in the lights, allowing Rodriguez to score, and Gregorius blasted his first home run as a Yankee to push three more across.

Pineda was pulled after six, and Fielder took Chasen Shreve deep for an added insurance run.

Rodriguez singled in a run in the bottom half to pull New York within 8-5 and end Lewis' outing, and Field tacked on two more essential runs with a bases- loaded double in the eighth.
