Dodgers' Ryu says he knew about torn labrum from MRI 2 years ago

Hyun-Jin Ryu has been keeping a secret.

The Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander says he knew about a tear in his throwing shoulder from an MRI two years ago, he revealed Friday.

Ryu underwent season-ending surgery Thursday, and won't be back until next spring. He also spent some time on the disabled list with the same problem towards the end of the last season.

It's remarkable the 28-year-old was able to hold off on surgery for as long as he did, but the Dodgers will surely miss his presence in the rotation as the team continues its march towards the postseason.

Ryu is 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 56 career starts for the Dodgers.
