White Sox to skip Carlos Rodon's next start

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

Determined not to overwork their most precious rookie, the Chicago White Sox decided Friday to skip left-hander Carlos Rodon's next scheduled start.

Selected third overall in last summer's draft, Rodon has made three starts since joining the rotation May 9 following a brief stint in the bullpen, but the 22-year-old won't take the mound Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, Hector Noesi will get the ball Monday evening, and the White Sox have not yet announced when Rodon will make his next start.

Rodon could start in Thursday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, but manager Robin Ventura reportedly sounded like he's leaning towards using right-hander Scott Carroll instead, according to ESPN's Doug Padilla.

Rodon's career as a starter has begun rather auspiciously, as the young lefty tossed six innings while allowing two earned runs or fewer in two of his first three starts. The North Carolina State product has also notched 17 strikeouts in 16 innings since joining the rotation, though he's also issued at least four walks in each of his first three starts.
