(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants haven't lost a series in almost a month and will try for another win over the NL West-rival Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday at AT&T Park.
The defending World Series champions are 3-0-2 in their last five series since dropping two of three matchups at Dodger Stadium from April 27-29.
San Francisco recorded a 2-0 win over Los Angeles on Tuesday, as Tim Hudson threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings and four relievers held the Dodgers off the board. Hudson walked two and struck out two for the Giants, who have won 12 of their last 17 games and pulled within 3 1/2 of LA for the NL West lead.
"I pitched just enough to keep us in there," Hudson said. "I got away with some tough pitches."
Buster Posey drove in a run and both Joe Panik and Angel Pagan recorded two hits in a winning effort. The Giants averaged 10 runs per game in their previous three contests.
Hunter Pence was 0-for-4 with two K's in his home debut. Pence missed the start of the season with a fractured left forearm.
The Giants, who have won 11 of their last 14 home games, will send Tim Lincecum to the bump Wednesday and he is 3-2 with a 2.43 earned run average in seven starts. Lincecum is 2-0 in the last three outings and did not record a decision in last Thursday's 4-3 loss at Cincinnati, touched for three runs with a season-high five walks across 4 2/3 innings.
Lincecum has a 3-1 record in four home starts and the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner is 10-8 with a 3.45 ERA in 28 career games (26 starts) against the Dodgers. The right-hander is 1-1 in two starts against LA this season.
The Dodgers are struggling a bit lately with four losses in the last six tries and have scored a total of two runs in the past three games. Carlos Frias tasted defeat for the first time this season (3-1) last night and suffered a hard-luck loss despite twirling six innings of one-run ball.
"Carlos was good tonight," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He did the job for us. He gave us a chance. We haven't scored a lot of runs lately. Hopefully it's a short little stretch and we can come back tomorrow and put some runs on the board."
Alex Guerrero had two of LA's seven hits on the night. Adrian Gonzalez finished with a hit and is still two RBI shy of 1,000 in his career.
Los Angeles is unbeaten in the last seven series (5-0-2) and looks to even this Bay Area series with Brett Anderson on the mound Wednesday. Anderson is 2-1 with a 3.50 earned run average in seven starts and recorded a no-decision in last Thursday's 5-4 loss to Colorado. He allowed two runs in 5 1/3 frames with a season-best eight K's and one walk.
Anderson is 0-1 in two meetings with the Giants this season and winless (0-3) in five career starts in this series to go along with a 6.10 ERA.
San Francisco is 5-2 against the Dodgers this season.
