Padres GM: Brewers haven't asked permission to interview Triple-A manager Pat Murphy

Don't expect Pat Murphy to pack his bags for Milwaukee anytime soon.

The San Diego Padres' Triple-A manager is being courted by the Milwaukee Brewers to fill out their coaching staff, but general manager A.J. Preller isn't budging, at least for now.

"No formal permission has been asked," Preller told Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I've talked to (Brewers GM Doug Melvin) about where our position would be if they decide to go down that path, but until they do, it's really a non-story."

New Brewers manager Craig Counsell was coached by Murphy at Notre Dame, and the pair share a close relationship. A hire doesn't appear to be imminent, however.

"One, we don't want to lose to Pat," Preller added. "Two, middle of the season, to start the domino effect throughout our system, I don't think we're crazy about it. I didn't tell (Melvin) there's no chance this is happening, but (I said) we're not crazy about this. Doug's easy to talk to. He was, like, 'Look, I totally get where you're coming from, and we'll decide whether we want to pursue this or not."

Murphy has been with the Padres organization in various roles since 2010.
