The Tigers placed Martinez (knee) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Analysis:

Martinez tweaked his knee in Monday's loss to the Brewers, so the Tigers decided to give him at least two weeks to rest and recover. It's not clear exactly how long Martinez will be sidelined, but with the Tigers calling up outfielder Tyler Collins to take his place on the roster, it seems likely J.D. Martinez will see plenty of action as the designated hitter in Martinez's absence.
