(SportsNetwork.com) - Still winless on the season, Jered Weaver takes the mound Sunday afternoon for the Los Angeles Angels in the finale of a three- game series with the San Francisco Giants.
Weaver gave up just three runs over 12 innings in consecutive no-decisions before getting hit hard in a 6-2 loss at Oakland on Tuesday. The righty yielded six runs on six hits, two of those homers, over seven innings and struck out just one batter.
Weaver was handed an early lead, but gave up five first-inning runs and fell to 0-3 with a 5.83 earned run average on the year.
"That's not the way you want to start it off," said Weaver. "You just want to go out there and get a 1-2-3 inning, but obviously that didn't happen."
Weaver has faced the Giants once before and picked up a win, logging six scoreless innings of two-hit ball.
Tim Lincecum looks to rebound today for the Giants after struggling in an 8-3 setback to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
Lincecum went into the start 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA through four starts, but yielded four runs over four innings against the Dodges. He gave up eight hits and three walks while striking out two as his ERA moved to 3.27.
The 30-year-old righty gave up three earned runs in eight innings of work in a loss the only other time he faced the Angels, racking up nine strikeouts.
The Giants are in position to sweep this set after claiming a 5-4 win on Saturday. Starter Tim Hudson finally received offensive support and backed it with a solid outing.
Hudson allowed three runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in eight-plus innings of work. He entered the game with just five runs of support from his teammates this season.
"It does make our job a lot more easier," Hudson said of the offensive help. "We can go out there and be a lot more aggressive in the strike zone."
Buster Posey and Brandon Crawford each homered and Nori Aoki drove in two runs for the Giants, who won Friday's series opener 3-2 on Joe Panik's RBI single in the ninth inning and have now won five straight at home.
Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored and Albert Pujols also went yard for the Angels, who saw starter Hector Santiago (2-2) give up four runs on nine hits over five frames in the club's fourth loss in five games.
Pujols returned to go yard after missing two games with a tight left hamstring.
The Angels have won six of their past nine versus the Giants, a span that includes a three-game sweep in San Francisco from June 15-17, 2009. They also beat the Giants in seven games to win the 2002 World Series.
