Royals' Escobar dealing with concussion-like symptoms after taking pitch to head

The Kansas City Royals have yet to fully determine the full extent of the injuries shortstop Alcides Escobar suffered after taking a fastball off the head during an at-bat Wednesday.

Escobar said he felt dizzy after receiving the 98 mph offering to the left side of the head from Cleveland Indians right-hander Danny Salazar. He was initially diagnosed with a left cheek contusion and was set to undergo more concussion tests.

The 28-year-old was held out of the Royals' lineup on Thursday as manager Ned Yost told Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports that Escobar is experiencing concussion-like symptoms, so the option to place him on the seven-day disabled list is still a possibility.

"When he left the game he was dizzy, had a headache, had trouble focusing, which are all concussion-like symptoms," manager Ned Yost told Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star

"Hopefully he'll be better in the next couple of days."

Escobar is off to an excellent start this season, hitting .291/.329/.267 with six doubles and eight RBIs in 19 games.
