Report: Red Sox won't honor A-Rod if he hits milestone 660th homer during weekend series

All eyes will be on Alex Rodriguez when the New York Yankees invade Fenway Park in Boston for a three-game weekend set with the Red Sox.

A-Rod has long played the role of the villain at Fenway, so it's ironic the embattled slugger is closing in on the biggest milestone of his career with three games looming against the Yankees' most hated rivals.

Rodriguez, who served a one-year suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs, can pull even with Willie Mays for fourth on the all-time home run list with a single blast during the weekend series, but he shouldn't expect a warm reception from the Fenway faithful.

"Nothing dramatic, nothing celebratory. Between zero and a very low reaction," a Red Sox official told The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy about the team's plans if A-Rod launches his 660th career blast during the series.

Shaughnessy predicts the Red Sox will only show a list of the top five home-run hitters on the big board. Then it will be up to the fans to shower Rodriguez with a chorus of boos - or perhaps a subtle golf clap would be more fitting?

Even Rodriguez's own squad is failing to acknowledge the feat due to a quarrel over a $6-million marketing bonus.

Rodriguez has 24 career homers at Fenway Park, but hasn't exhibited much power against Boston's projected starting pitchers this weekend.

Rodriguez has been defying the odds with a surprisingly productive season to this point, so it would certainly be fitting to see home run No. 660 sail over the Green Monster in the next three days.
