Cabrera's 2 homers, 4 RBIs power AL-best Tigers

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Anytime Miguel Cabrera hits over 800 feet worth of home runs, it's usually a good day for the Detroit Tigers.

Cabrera continued his scorching April on Wednesday with his second multi-homer game of the season, connecting for a pair of blasts and driving in four runs to lift his Tigers to a wild, 10-7 come-from-behind win over the Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers rallied from four down in the fifth to win the series rubber match, a game that featured six home runs, including an inside-the-parker by Detroit catcher James McCann.

The victory secured the Tigers sole possession of first place in the Central and upped their American League-leading win total to 15.

Cabrera's first homer - a sixth-inning solo shot to center - measured 465 feet, according to MLB Statcast. He added a 418-foot, two-run blast in the ninth for his fifth of the season. His 3-for-5 effort included an RBI double in the first to up his season slash line to .370/.453/.630.

"(Cabrera's) a special player," McCann told reporters after the game. "Once in 125 years. You look back at the history of the game and not many guys except one who can match his numbers to this point of his career and that's Hank Aaron."

The similarities between Cabrera and Aaron up to this point in their careers are quite remarkable. Here's where they stood through their first 1,831 games:

STAT Aaron Cabrera
AGE 32 32
BA 319 321
HR 407 392
RBI 1322 1379
OBP .376 .397
SLG .567 .564
OPS .943 .962

McCann, meanwhile, had a memorable day himself at the plate. His two-run, inside-the-parker in the sixth inning was the first homer of his major-league career.

"I've never run that far in a baseball game before," he said. "But I guess this is how you draw up your first home run."
