Alex Rodriguez entered rarefied air Friday night in the Bronx when he drove in Slade Heathcott with a seventh-inning single in his club's series opener against the Texas Rangers.

In the midst of his 21st season in the major leagues, Rodriguez collected the 1,992nd RBI of his remarkable career Friday night, tying New York Yankees icon Babe Ruth for fourth on the all-time list.

Ruth made his MLB debut in 1914, spending the first five seasons of his career with the Boston Red Sox, and some debate still exists over his cumulative RBI total as runs batted in only became an official statistic in 1920.

Rodriguez, who trails only Mark Teixeira for the team lead in RBI this season, also whittled the Yankees' deficit down to 8-5 with the single, his second hit of the evening.
