Reds' Bailey back on DL with elbow sprain

Billy Hurst-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds have announced that right-handed pitcher Homer Bailey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Friday with a right elbow ligament sprain.

Bailey was shut down last season in August to undergo surgery on the same elbow, and another injury could mean Tommy John surgery is on the way for the 28 year old.

Bailey was activated from the DL this season on April 18th and made two starts for the Reds with a loss and a no-decision. Bailey struggled in both starts, only striking out four batters while posting a 5.56 ERA in 11 1/3 innings of work.

The Reds have also recalled 24-year-old right-hander Carlos Contreras from Triple-A Louisville.
