Rays acquire Xavier Cedeno, transfer John Jaso to 60-day DL

The Tampa Bay Rays pushed back John Jaso's return to the lineup until at least June on Monday when they placed the injured catcher on the 60-day disabled list.

Hampered by a left wrist sprain that forced him to the disabled list after just one regular-season game, Jaso was transferred to the 60-day DL to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Xavier Cedeno. The Rays acquired Cedeno, a 28-year-old left-hander, from the Dodgers on Monday less than a week after he was traded to Los Angeles by the Washington Nationals.

Jaso, who spent the previous two seasons with the Oakland Athletics, was injured in his first game with Tampa Bay when he jammed his wrist against the knee of Baltimore Orioles infielder Ryan Flaherty while sliding into second base.

Cedeno, meanwhile, appeared in five games with the Nationals this season, allowing two earned runs while notching four strikeotus over three innings before being traded. The Puerto Rico native did not appear in a game with the Dodgers.
