(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Mets will dust themselves off from losing the Subway Series this past weekend and are slated to open a three-game set Monday night against the Miami Marlins.
The Mets dropped two of three showdowns with the Yankees in the Bronx, including Sunday night's 6-4 setback. Alex Rodriguez homered in the first inning and stroked an RBI double during a four-run second off Mets starter Jon Niese, who allowed six runs -- four earned -- in five innings.
Former Yankee Curtis Granderson homered and Daniel Murphy ended 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBI in the loss.
"Tonight wasn't pretty," Mets outfielder Michael Cuddyer said. "It was obviously, by far, the worst game we have played."
The Mets were riding an 11-game winning streak before visiting Yankee Stadium, but still lead the majors with a 14-5 record.
Dillon Gee gets the nod for the Mets Monday in South Beach and is 0-1 with a 5.60 earned run average in three starts. Gee has posted back-to-back no- decisions and delivered seven innings of two-run ball in a 3-2 win over Atlanta last Wednesday.
Gee has given up at least two runs in every start (11 total) and the Mets are 2-1 when he takes the hill. The right-hander has made seven career starts against the NL East-rival Marlins, going 3-1 with a 3.30 ERA.
The Marlins have bounced back from a rough start to the season and look to extend their winning streak to six games tonight.
Miami swept a three-game set from the Washington Nationals this weekend to begin a nine-game homestand and is coming off Sunday's 6-2 victory. Dee Gordon recorded four hits, Adeiny Hechavarria drove in three runs and Giancarlo Stanton finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
"We knew we were a good team," Stanton said. "Just to mesh on the field is good to finally see. We all knew it was there. It took longer than expected, but we're here now, and playing good."
Dan Haren earned the win with five innings of two-run ball and benefited from a 14-4 advantage in hits. He outdueled Nats starter Gio Gonzalez, who gave up six runs and 10 hits in five innings.
The Marlins will also welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to town for three games on this homestand and their winning streak comes on the heels of five straight losses.
Jarred Cosart will toe the rubber for Miami Monday and he is 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA in three starts. Cosart collected his first win of the season in last Wednesday's 6-1 victory at Philadelphia, as he held the hosts to a run and four hits over six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Cosart, a right-hander, has made two career starts against the Mets and has no record with a 5.56 ERA.
The Marlins were swept in four games by the Mets from April 16-19 at Citi Field and have lost 12 of the previous 15 games in this series.
