MRI on Mariners' Iwakuma reveals Grade 1 lat strain, out 2-4 weeks

Seattle Mariners right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma will miss two-to-four weeks of action after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 right lat strain.

The Mariners placed the hurler, who was scheduled to pitch Sunday, on the 15-day disabled list Friday.

It's unclear when Iwakuma suffered the injury, but general manager Jack Zduriencik is concerned about his recent dip in velocity.

"After his (last) start, he said that he felt a little fatigued in his shoulder," Zduriencik told The Seattle Times. "So what we thought we'd do is wait till his bullpen session on Friday to see how he felt. And the same thing was the case."

Iwakuma has uncharacteristically gone 0-1 with a lofty 6.61 ERA over three starts.

The 34-year-old went 15-9 with a 3.52 ERA in 28 starts last season, and was named an All-Star in 2013.
