Parnell (elbow) has been shut down for a week with forearm soreness, The Record's Matt Ehalt reports.

Analysis:

Forearm soreness for a pitcher returning from Tommy John surgery is not ideal, obviously, and given Jeurys Familia's excellence in the closer role to start the season, owners stashing Parnell in leagues with shallow benches may want to rethink that move. We already know he won't immediately reclaim the closer role when he returns, and this setback suggests that may not be until late-May or early-June. His velocity had not been there and his curveball lacked its typical sharpness during rehab outings. He is without a timetable to return.
