Report: Rangers top prospect Gallo returning from injury this weekend

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers are finally getting some positive injury news.

Top prospect Joey Gallo is set to make his season debut for Double-A Frisco at some point this weekend, according to Anthony Andro FOX Sports Southwest.

Gallo, the 39th overall selection in the 2012 draft, underwent surgery on April 3 to remove a bone spur from his left ankle, which ended his spring training a week early.

The 21-year-old blasted 42 home runs in the minors last season and is widely considered as one of the best hitting prospects in the game.

Gallo is unlikely to make his major-league debut this season, but a promotion to Triple-A Round Rock could certainly be a possibility in 2015.
