Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis leaves with sore ribs

TORONTO (AP) Blue Jays infielder Devon Travis left Sunday's game against Atlanta in the first inning after being hit in the left ribs by a pitch, then aggravating the injury when he went back to first base on a pickoff attempt.

The Blue Jays said Travis suffered a left rib contusion.

The rookie second baseman, who's batted leadoff the past three games in place of injured shortstop Jose Reyes, came in batting a team-high .356.

Travis was hit by a pitch from Braves right-hander Shelby Miller to begin the bottom of the first. One out later, he went back to the bag on a pickoff throw from catcher Christian Bethancourt, then got up holding his left side.

Trainer Mike Frostad and manager John Gibbons came out to check on Travis, who was replaced by Steve Tolleson.
