Dodgers' Puig out with leg soreness, hopeful to play Tuesday

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig's return to the lineup lasted all but one game.

Puig, who doubled, singled and walked in his first game back Saturday after missing three with a sore left hamstring, is sidelined for Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Puig ran sprints Friday for the first time since suffering the injury, prompting Dodgers trainer Stan Conte to clear his return to action. He finished 2-for-3 with an RBI out of the two-hole.

Manager Don Mattingly told Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times that Puig is sore but it's not considered to be serious. Puig is hopeful to return to the lineup Tuesday in San Francisco.

"I'm not sure there was any more testing, but Stan came into the office early and said he was good to go," manager Don Mattingly told reporters after the Dodgers' 6-3 win. "After seeing him run yesterday, I really didn't think we would have to do a DL situation. He looked pretty good yesterday."

Puig almost found himself back on the sidelines after nearly wearing an 86-mph pitch from Jordan Lyles on the hip.

With the Dodgers up one in the fifth and threatening for more, Lyles' offering was too inside for Puig's liking.

Puig has hits in four straight games and owns a .267/.353/533 slash line with two home runs and seven strikeouts through seven games.
