Report: Blue Jays' Buehrle considering retirement after 2015 season
The long and illustrious career of Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle may be coming to an end.
Buehrle, a 16-year veteran and five-time All-Star, is contemplating retiring at the end of the 2015 season, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The 36-year-old, who recently became the fourth active pitcher to record his 200th career win, is in the last year of a four-year, $58-million contract he inked with the Miami Marlins in December 2011. He spent one season with the Marlins before getting shipped to the Blue Jays as part of a blockbuster deal in 2012 that also netted Toronto shortstop Jose Reyes.
Buehrle has won each of his two starts this season, throwing six innings in both contests after going 13-10 with a 3.39 ERA in 2014.
A 38th-round pick of the Chicago White Sox in 1998, Buehrle has enjoyed an improbable run that's witnessed him pitch two no-hitters - including a perfect game - and log 200-plus innings while recording double-digit victories in 14 consecutive seasons.
The soft-tossing southpaw, a four-time Gold Glove winner, was a member of the 2005 World Series-winning White Sox team.
Buehrle is scheduled to make his third start of the season Tuesday versus the Baltimore Orioles.
