National League Game Summary - Arizona at San Diego

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Upton's two-out solo shot in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted San Diego over Arizona by a 3-2 count in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Upton ended up 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Padres, who received an RBI each in the series-clinching win from Matt Kemp and Yonder Alonso.

"Not really," Upton said if he still carried a grudge against his former club. "Not at all. Obviously, the first time I came back to Arizona, there was a little adrenaline. But now it's just another team."

Joaquin Benoit (3-0) tossed a scoreless top of the eighth and Craig Kimbrel followed suit in the ninth for his third save.

Paul Goldschmidt's two-run, first-inning homer was the lone meaningful offense for the Diamondbacks. Ender Inciarte and Jake Lamb added two hits in the setback.

Randall Delgado (0-1) took the loss after surrendering Upton's deciding blast. He'd retired Derek Norris and Kemp on fly outs to begin the frame, but Upton took a pitch over the wall in left center and the Padres led by a run.

"It was a little bit up," Delgado said. "It was a mistake and obviously I paid for it."

Kimbrel worked around a one-out single from Lamb, retiring the next two batters in turn to lock down the one-run result.

Goldschmidt's two-run shot to right put Arizona on the board in the first. Inciarte singled, went to second on A.J. Pollock's foul out and stole third before scoring on the homer.

San Diego countered in the second when Upton hit a leadoff single and scored when Alonso followed with a double.

The Padres tied the game in the home sixth as Wil Myers reached with a leadoff double, Norris singled him to third and he scored on a Kemp fly. Alonso walked to put two on, then Will Middlebrooks singled but Norris was thrown out at home to end the inning.
