Diamondbacks recall Yasmany Tomas from Triple-A Reno; grounds out in 1st at-bat

The Arizona Diamondbacks rolled out their new, $68.5-million weapon on Wednesday night.

Outfielder/third baseman Yasmany Tomas was recalled from Triple-A Reno prior to Wednesday's clash with the San Diego Padres and made his major-league debut.

The Cuban entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, but grounded out with the score tied at 2-2.

Tomas began the season in the minors to work on his conditioning after failing to impress the coaching staff with his athleticism. He slashed only .190/.261/.381 in five games at right field in Triple-A before getting called up.

Tomas, who signed a six-year pact with Arizona in December, will likely see time in a crowded Diamondbacks outfield, and could get reps along with rookie Jake Lamb at third base. For now, Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart says Tomas will pinch-hit off the bench.
